September Meeting

27 08 2010

“Light & Sound”
Improve the Quality of Your Audio & Lighting

September’s meeting will feature elements of a small corporate production recently completed by some of our members. If you normally shoot mostly weddings you might not give much thought to lighting and audio beyond lav mics and reception lights. But what do you do if you are hired to produce a small corporate video? We will demonstrate different types of microphones, explain camera settings for audio, audio monitoring, signal to noise ratios, environmental conditions, softbox lighting, backdrop & hair lighting as well as exposure & white balance.

Is the equipment expensive? Not necessarily. We’ll talk about lights and audio at different price points.

We’ll even show software to turn your Mac or PC into a functioning teleprompter – and give it away to all attendees who bring a thumb drive. All in one meeting!

Are you a member of HPVA? You should be! Guests are welcome to attend for $20. Food will be served.

Doors Open at 6:00pm

Meeting Begins at 6:30pm

August Meeting

6 08 2010

August 11, 2010

“Dance, Dance, Dance”

The theme for August’s meeting is Show Your Stuff – Dance Footage.

Wedding reception’s usually have 2+ hours of general dancing. How do you cover this? How much do you shoot, how do you edit it, and how much do you include in the final deliverables?

There are multiple answers to these questions and we invite all HPVA members to bring a DVD showcasing 3 – 5 minutes of general dance footage and be prepared to talk a little about it.  While we often see samples from studios featuring elegant and emotional highlights or trailer clips, we rarely see anything related to general dancing – yet these segments are present on most of the wedding videos we deliver.

So, c’mon out and prepare to Show Your Stuff. This will be an opportunity to learn from each other.

“Swap Your Stuff”

No, we won’t be trading out our equipment, though for some of us that might be an exciting thought, but rather our “educational materials”.  If you have any training videos, books or anything that you would like to lend to a fellow member in exchange for a different item, bring your item(s) with you.  Once swapped, just bring it back to the next meeting, and hopefully you learned something new.  If you have any snippet you’d like to share with the group, we’ll have A/V on hand to give a prospective swapper an idea about what’s on the DVD.

As an added bonus, there will be a door prize for all attendees that enroll their 2010 membership with HPVA. We’d like to thank our friends at Animoto for donating this fantastic door prize!
